Hot Buttered Rum for the Party (makes 6 drinks)

Butter Batter Components

8 Tbsp unsalted butter (room temp)

½ C packed dark brown sugar

¼ tsp pure vanilla extract

½ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground ginger

¼ tsp fresh ground nutmeg

⅛ tsp ground cardamom

⅛ tsp ground cloves

⅛ tsp salt

Drink Components

6 Tbsp heavy cream

1 ½ C dark or light rum

5-6 C water, just below boiling point (more or less to taste)

Whipped cream (optional garnish)

Fresh ground nutmeg (optional garnish)

Ground cinnamon (optional garnish)

Butter Batter Actions

Cream together all butter components. Use right away or store in air tight container in the fridge so you have drinks at the ready when adventurers come calling.

Drink Actions

Spoon 2 tablespoons of butter batter into a heat-proof mug. Add 1 tablespoon cream, 2 oz. rum, fill mug halfway with not quite boiling water. Stir until butter is melted and top with more hot water until mug is filled. Garnish with whipped cream topped with fresh ground nutmeg and cinnamon, if desired.

Zero Proof Hot Buttered Rum Options

It’s easy to make this holiday drink non alcoholic. Simply replace the rum with ½ teaspoon rum extract -or- don’t use anything “rum” related, this recipe is tasty without it.
