Fridays at the Tavern: Buffalo Wing Caramel Corn

Fact: fun food = better RPG sessions.

We’re all about the little extras that make game day at yours even more epic. It’s why we started an RPG loot crate and a store! It’s also why, on select Fridays, we post a new recipe for free that’s a tried and true favorite around our own game table.

This week, in a nod to another game happening over the weekend, we're offering you a recipe that's a surprising riff on football classics: buffalo wings & sweet stuff. We modified it from a Bon Appetit recipe.

Add to the fun by adding a sign or telling folks what this surprising snack is. It’s not just a novelty, it’s a solid standby that’ll grab everyone's attention and have them reaching for more. Hope you enjoy it as much our players!

Buffalo Wing Caramel Corn

Snack Components:

8 C popped popcorn*

1 C sugar

1/4 C water

1/4 C Buffalo style sauce

3 Tbsp butter, cubed

1 tsp Coarse kosher salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp. ground cayenne pepper

Snack Actions:

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Get a large bowl and rimmed baking sheet. Line baking sheet with parchment paper (or use a silicone baking mat). Spray the bowl interior and parchment paper (if using) with nonstick spray. Add your popped corn to the bowl and start your caramel.

Bring sugar and water to a boil over medium heat. Stir to dissolve sugar and boil, swirling your pan a few times, for about 12 minutes, or until your mixture is a deep caramel color.

Turn off the heat and stir in hot sauce and butter. Watch out: It’ll bubble up! Turn your heat back on, return the mixture to a boil, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat again, stir in the salt, baking soda, and cayenne, and then quickly pour your hot caramel mixture over the popcorn in the bowl and toss to coat.

Spread your caramel corn onto the baking sheet and bake until dry, about 20 minutes. Stir at about 10 minutes. Cool and serve.

*We gave you an easy recipe for perfect stovetop popcorn. Check out that blog post to get the skinny!
